The Food Bank of the Hudson Valley has created the following
guidelines to help any business or school run a successful food
drive.
Establish a committee that will set the food theme, handle all the
publicity, the logistics of the food drive, and the expected goal to
reach.
Setup a time frame the food drive will start and end for collecting
the donations.
Communicate the food drive campaign to all business and school
employees in the company/school newsletter, memos to department
supervisors, flyers, and hanging posters in strategic areas.
Provide sturdy bins in high-traffic areas at convenient locations
for food donations. We recommend that you have one bin for
collecting canned food items and one bin for dry packaged good
donations.
Inform everyone involved at the end of the food drive of its success
in the company/school newsletter, memo, or e-mail.
Below is a suggestive list of desirable food and personal hygiene items:
canned tuna fish, chicken, turkey, ham, salmon, meat-based soups,
and peanut butter
canned fruits, vegetables, and juices
evaporated or powdered milk
assorted pastas, rice, dry beans, and cereals
- personal hygiene items - soap,
toothpaste, shampoo, tooth brushes, toilet paper, paper towels,
diapers, facial tissue
The Food Bank is unable to distribute baby food or baby formula collected through food drives. Dry packaging and cans are preferred. Glass and perishable foods are discouraged.
Delivery and Pick-Up
Date and time for dropping off food drive donations to the Food Bank
warehouse can be made by calling the Food Bank’s warehouse manager
at (845) 534-5344.
If pickup of donations in excess of 200 pounds is necessary,
arrangements will be made depending on the warehouse transportation
availability.
The Food Bank can also provide you with a list of food pantries in
your area that would welcome your donations.
THANK YOU FOR HELPING US!
