The Food Bank of the Hudson Valley would not be able to run its operation so effectively if it were not for the support and dedication of hundreds of volunteers who give so selfless of their time. Volunteers are vital to the Food Bank and its mission to feed the hungry. Volunteers include students, seniors, business people, church members, service organizations and others who help us in our mission to feed the hungry. The Food Bank has many wonderful volunteer opportunities available with flexible hours. Become involved! You can make a difference.

Volunteer Opportunities

Advisory Board & Fundraising Committees
Your expertise will be appreciated if you have an interest in serving on our advisory board or on any of our fundraising committees. (click here for fundraising events) 

Office Help
Volunteers are needed to send out mailings. Clerical help is also needed to answer phones and take shopping orders. 

Salvage
Volunteers work in the warehouse to check, sort and pack donations of non-perishable food for distribution to member feeding agencies. 

Special Events
You can help organize or staff several special events. Some of these include the Holiday Hunger Appeal, Check Out Hunger, Star 93.3 Stuff the Bus food drive, Raise Awareness for Hunger 5K walk, and the Food Bank’s Annual Dinner Dance. The events are enjoyable and fun for the volunteers. (click here to volunteer)

Food Drives
Your organization or group can help organize a food drive for non-perishable items during the year to benefit the over 350 member agencies located in the six counties. (click here to organize a food drive)

CHECK OUT HUNGER
Check Out Hunger is a major fundraiser for the Food Bank. Supermarket chains and some independent markets in six counties – Orange, Putnam, Sullivan, Dutchess, Ulster and Rockland participate in this campaign that runs annually October 1 through December 31. Heavy-duty placards, with tear-off coupon pads of $1, $3, $5 denominations adhered to it, are positioned at all cashier checkout counters in the supermarkets. Shoppers tear off a coupon, hand it to the cashier and the donation is added to their food bill. Volunteers are needed to help set up the stores, routinely visit them, and replenish supplies when needed.  Check Out Hunger planning committee members are also needed to assist the Food Bank Development Department organize the event.
 
WALK TO FIGHT HUNGER 5K
The Food Bank's 5th annual walk will be held Saturday, October 18, 2008,
at Chadwick Lake Park (off Route 300) in the Town of Newburgh, NY. There will be food, refreshments, raffles, and entertainment for all walkers.  If you are interested in participating as a walker, please call the Food Bank for registration forms or click on "Calendar of Events" on the homepage and print out registration form from our website.    Sponsorship for refreshments, t-shirts, printing, signage are available.  If interested please call the Food Bank (845-534-5344) for further information.  Volunteers are needed to register walkers, act as parking attendants and staff tables.
 
HOLIDAY HUNGER APPEAL
The Food Bank of the Hudson Valley will be holding its 13th annual Holiday Hunger Appeal from November through January 2008.  During this Appeal, the Food Bank, along with business support, will raise funds by hosting several activities.  For instance, there will be several family-type puppet shows at a local college, area banks/businesses will participate in a pinup campaign, a number of fire departments will host events to benefit the Food Bank, several radio stations (Star 93.3 “Stuff the Bus”)  will host a food and donation drive, etc. Sponsors needed for this event.  Holiday Hunger Appeal planning committee members are also needed to assist the Food Bank Development Department organize the event. 


CASINO ROYALE
This is one of the Food Bank’s major fundraisers. The Casino Royale fundraiser, open to the public, will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2008, 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., at the Holiday Inn in Fishkill, NY.  There will be a cocktail hour, continuous buffet dinner, lots of gaming tables (Blackjack, Roulette, Crap, Texas Hold'Em, Slot Machines, etc.), entertainment, and Players Choice Raffle and silent auction.  Besides attendance, revenue from the auction and ad journal are important in this fundraiser. Tickets $65 per person.  Sponsors needed for this event; please call (845) 534-5344 if you are interested.  Volunteers are needed to assist in making phone calls to area merchants for donations of auction items and to solicit businesses in the six county area for advertisement placement in the dinner ad journal. NEW YORK STATE CPA GOLF TOURNAMENT
The New York State Certified Public Accountants Association has a yearly golf tournament in May that is held at the Wiltwyck Golf Course in Kingston, NY. The Food Bank is invited to use this tournament to raise money by selling golf flags and hole in one sponsorships, and in raffles for special gifts. Volunteers are needed to assist in making phone calls to area businesses to find advertisers for golf flags, Hole in One sponsor, and to solicit merchants for gift certificates for the raffle. Golf planning committee members are also needed to assist the Food Bank Development Department organize the event.

We offer many event sponsorship and advertising opportunities to partner your company’s name as a supporter of the Food Bank in its mission to help feed the hungry. Your support will be greatly appreciated by the Food Bank and its 330 member agencies.

ANNUAL DINNER
The Food Bank’s Annual Dinner will be held in early Fall. This is one of the Food Bank’s major fundraiser. Silent auction and dinner ad journal are also part of this fundraiser. Sponsors needed for in-kind donations such as airline tickets, weekend getaways, hotels, dinners, theatre, etc. for silent auction. Sponsors needed for printing costs of ad journal and invitations. Advertisers needed for ads in ad journal.


NEW YORK STATE CPA GOLF TOURNAMENT
The New York State Certified Public Accountants Association has a yearly golf tournament in May that is held at the Wiltwyck Golf Course in Kingston, NY.
